Route description

The START is from the Central Square, with an initial descent of approximately 1 kilometer on asphalt. Upon reaching the town hall area, a left turn is made, diverting from the public road.
The route then entails an ascent on a forest road through the wooded area, passing by the Roman Circular Funerary Monument at Tăul Găuri. Subsequently, there is a descent into the village of Corna, crossing several meadows. The descent continues to the hamlet of Bunta, marking the location of the first feeding / hydration point at kilometer 6.5.

From there, we start going uphill through the forest on a path that leads us through pretty clearings full of wildflowers. We make it to the top of the hill, where we get a nice view of the quarries we passed and a look at Detunata Golașă, which we still have ahead of us.
The trail reconnects with the county road, and we’ll cover a short distance on asphalt to reach the next hydration point at kilometer 11.5.

From there, our volunteers will direct us to the right, guiding us along a tourist trail marked with a blue triangle. Following these markers, we begin a descent, making our way through stone roads, meadows, and young birch forests. The descent takes us through an old beech forest into the Abruzel Valley, where the road becomes deep and paved.

Upon entering the Abruzel Valley in the village of Văleni, we continue our path by following the markers. This includes crossing a concrete bridge over the Muntari stream and veering right onto the main road of the valley for about 1 kilometer. Here, at kilometer 14.1, we encounter another feeding/hydration point. On the left side, occasional glimpses of old mining galleries can be observed.

Then, we take a left onto a forest road that winds its way hrough the woods.
Departing from the road, we make a right turn, advancing as per the markings, onto another scarcely used road. Progressing along this path takes us to the hill’s summit, and in a broad clearing, we descend to the village of Valea Șesii, right beside the Fefeleaga Memorial House.

Continuing left, we follow the village road, deviating after  round 100 meters and traversing a wooden bridge over the Valea Șesii stream. The trail proceeds through a fenced meadow, where it is advisable to stay as close as possible to the fence.
Continuing the ascent on a path that gently winds through the forest, we reach a sizable clearing where the Fefeleaga Inn stands, owned by a descendant of the famous character from Ion Agârbiceanu’s novel.

From here, we ascend a bit more through the forest and arrive at the base of  Detunata, which we admire while passing by, viewing it from the bottom up, from the glacier area. After covering a few hundred more meters, we arrive at the next feeding and hydration point at kilometer 19.2. Here, it’s crucial to nouri sh and hydrate well for the impending climb to the summit of Detunata via the tourist trail. Following this trail, we reach the top, hugging the base of the cliff (CAUTION: AVOID STEPPING BEYOND THE LANDMARKS THAT WILL BE PLACED AT THE TOP OF THE
CLIFF! RISK OF FALLING INTO THE VOID!!!).

Then we go down the tourist trail to the other side of the massif. From here the trail continues along the forest roads. We leave the reservoir to the right where you can see the buried church tower of the former village of Geamăna, we reach and cross the village of Muntari, where we can also hydrate at some springs located and signposted on the side of the road, climb a few serpentines to an industrial road, run again about a km on asphalt downhill, then reach the next feeding/hydration point at km 29,1, where volunteers will guide us ahead.

We will descend on a forest road to Tăul Brazi, run along it, then the trail will take us out onto the asphalt road in Roșia Montană where, after a few hundred meters, we reach the central square. Here we hydrate and prepare for the next loop of about 11km.
We continue downhill on asphalt for about 200m, then turn left, leaving the public road, and start the climb up the industrial quarry road to the summit, to the Cross.

From here we descend on a path through the forest near Piatra Corbului, we reach again a 5 roads intersection (feeding/hydration point) where volunteers will guide us
straight ahead. After about 700 m we leave the industrial road, go left, following the volunteers’ indications and enter a path that leads us to the Șulei Massif, from where we can see Tăul Brazi, Tăul Anghel and Piatra Corbului – monument of nature and symbol of Roșia Montana.
Then we descend to Tăul Mare, the heart-shaped lake, which is bypassed on the right side, and enter the common section with the Half Marathon and Cross Country trails. The trail winds through alpine meadows, then follows a short but very steep climb through grass to the top of the Rotundu Massif.

From here we start a descent on a forest road through fir trees, pass a raspberry bush and turn left. Near the end, on the left, there is also a cold spring. We head towards the village of Țarina, we go downhill for about 1 km and reach Tăul Țarinii.
From here we continue for about 1.5 km and reach the central square of Roșia Montane, the Finish point.
