Route description

The START is from the Central Square, with an initial descent of approximately 1 kilometer on asphalt. Upon reaching the town hall area, a left turn is made, diverting from the public road.
The route then entails an ascent on a forest road through the wooded area, passing by the Roman Circular Funerary Monument at Tăul Găuri. Subsequently, there is a descent into the village of Corna, crossing several meadows. The descent continues to the hamlet of Bunta, marking the location of the first feeding / hydration point at kilometer 6.5.

From there we start a climb through the forest on a path that takes us through beautiful meadows full of wildflowers, we reach the top of the hill from where we will have a beautiful panorama of the quarries we left behind but also a view of Detunata, that is, what awaits us next…

At km 10.5, the route reaches the county road which we will cross carefully (ATTENTION, road traffic is not stopped!) we will follow a smooth path through the meadow and after about 1km we will reach Tăul Corna where we will enter the quarry where gold has been exploited for thousands of years and we will run on industrial roads to the top of Cârnic passing by a lot of old mine galleries.

From here we descend on a path through the forest near Piatra Corbului we reach an intersection of five roads where following the signs we will keep slightly to the right. After about 500m we leave the forest road to the left, following the instructions of the volunteers, and enter a mowed path at the end of which we have a short but very steep climb that takes us up the Ghergheleu hill, then we descend at km 17 where the marathon and half routes separate. The marathon loop crosses the county road (ATTENTION, road traffic is not stopped) and descends on a meadow straight down about 300 m until we intersect with a forest road where we turn right on it, we continue about 1km and then enter the blue triangle tourist route and following the markings we begin a descent followed by an undulating route of several km that alternates on stone roads, paths, meadows, forests and a few asphalt areas through picturesque hamlets that we cross in passing before reaching the foot of Detunata Golașa which we admire in passing from the bottom up from the glacier area. We walk a few hundred meters and reach the next feeding and hydration point at km 27, we feed and hydrate well to start the climb to the top of Detunata on the tourist trail. We reach the top, we follow the tourist trail that passes at the base of the cliff (ATTENTION, DO NOT PASS OVER THE MARKERS THAT WE WILL PUT ON THE TOP OF THE CLIFF, DANGER OF FALLING INTO THE VOID!!!) and we descend on the tourist trail on the other side of the massif. From here the route continues undulating on forest roads, we leave the reservoir on the right where we can see the steeple of the buried church in the former village of Geamana, we reach and cross the village of Muntari where we have the opportunity to hydrate at several springs located and signposted on the side of the road, we climb a few switchbacks until we reach the county road again which we cross carefully and arrive where the marathon loop began at the main guidance/control/food/hydration point. (Km 34)

From here the route is common with the two cross-country and half-marathon events, namely after we leave the point on a grassy path, we follow the ridge and enjoy superb panoramas before descending to Tăul Mare. The route continues winding through an alpine meadow, then follows a short but very steep climb through the grass to the Rotundu hill. From here we start a descent on a forest road among fir trees, we pass by a raspberry patch and near the end we also have a cold spring. After the spring we turn left again and make one last climb to the antenna on the Rotundu peak from where we descend at speed for approximately 2 km, we pass by the Văidoaia viewpoint and then arrive in the Central Square of Roșia Montane at the FINISH.
